Opportunity Description

The United Nations Volunteers program offers a unique opportunity to volunteer as a Community Connector. This role involves identifying the unique needs of participants and working with them to connect with available community resources. The aim is to link seniors living in the community who require support with local services and groups based on their specific needs and personal goals.

Responsibilities

As a volunteer in this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Visiting Participants and Providing Support: Conducting field visits to offer necessary support and assistance.
  • Conducting Surveys and Questionnaires: Following up and managing surveys with participants.
  • Engaging in Conversations: Discussing challenges and issues faced by participants.
  • Assisting Participants in Goal Setting: Helping participants set and achieve personal goals.
  • Connecting Participants with Community Organizations: Communicating with organizations via phone, email, or electronic referral platform.
  • Using Technology: Utilizing tablets to provide information and record visit notes.
  • Maintaining Knowledge of Community Programs: Staying updated on community programs and services.
  • Accompanying Participants to Resources: Accompanying participants to resources and services as needed.
  • Promoting Community Events: Encouraging participants to engage in local events and programs.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Accurately recording visit notes and preparing necessary reports.

Application Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Knowledge of the local community and a desire to participate in it.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Teamwork skills.
  • Access to communication tools such as phone, email, and internet.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Previous training with the Canadian Red Cross.
  • Experience working with seniors.
  • Proficiency in additional languages such as French.

Additional Information

To succeed in this role, volunteers must complete the required learning path, which includes training provided free of charge by the Child Rights Centre. The training, including first aid and CPR, will be offered both online and in person in an engaging and interactive manner.

Minimum Commitment

  • A minimum commitment of 6 months.
  • At least 6 hours of volunteer work per month.
